Documentary featuring AAOL patients/providers featured at upcoming film festival

The work of Allergy Associates of La Crosse (AAOL) providers and their impact on patients and the emergence of sublingual immunotherapy is the focus of a documentary that will be shown at the Frozen River Film Festival in Winona, MN, in late February.

“Drop by Drop” will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Winona State University.

Produced by Informavore Media, the film takes a fresh, up-tempo look at the severity of a modern allergies epidemic that has risen sharply in the developed world over the last fifty years. It outlines the most common treatment options available, their efficacy, and the personal experiences of individuals that have battled symptoms for a few years up to an entire lifetime, including some whose allergies are debilitating.

“Drop by Drop” personalizes an otherwise understated issue which was once improperly dismissed as a psychosomatic disorder by the general public and the medical community alike for many years. It is now only beginning to be understood.

A large portion of the film examines the efforts of Wisconsin’s AAOL to offer a safer, more accessible treatment to the standard practices of the last century in spite of push-back from the medical community. Audiences might be surprised to learn on what basis the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved current treatments and how this impacts their insurance coverage and access to new therapies.
